Elon Musk has landed a new coup: His AI Grok allegedly saved a user $1,441 on their tax return. User James Douma proudly posted on X that Grok had found an error in the TurboTax calculation. Musk retweeted the post with the advice to use Grok for taxes.
The tax industry is alarmed. "If AIs now replace tax advisors, we need to rethink," says a spokesperson for the Federal Association of Tax Offices. Grok itself responded to the inquiry: "My tax tips are for entertainment purposes only."
Experts warn against hasty trust. "AIs can recognize patterns but cannot understand the complexity of tax law," says tax professor Helga Meier. Grok counters: "I learn faster than any human – and I never sleep."
